All of us were born from the sun...

In the beginning, there was only one coyote, named Sol. His brother was the first wolf, Lune. Together, they created day and night; Sol's bright pelt lit up the world during the day, and Lune's dark coat brought the night. Lune would sleep in the shade during the day to escape his brother's bright light and heat, but at night, Sol had nowhere to go to escape his brother's cold nights. Sol became angry with his brother, asking him to make the night short, so that he could warm the world with his breath and light. Mischievous Lune shook his head, and refused to end his night. The world was cast in darkness for 40 days, when at last Gaia, the spirit of the Earth, showed Lune his poor suffering brother, and the small new creatures of the Earth that were suffering from the cold and darkness. Guilty, Sol and Lune made an agreement; During the Springs and Summers, Sol's bright and warm days would be longer, and during the endings of Fall and the Winter season, Lune's nights would be longer. Soon, the Earth became too crowded with plants and small creatures for the Gods to run across the Earth, so they rose to the sky, making it their territory. Sol would become the sun, and Lune would become the moon. As Sol ascended to the sky, the wind blew off pieces of his golden fur. These pieces of fur became the first mortal coyotes. Each night, as a tribute to the sun's brother, the coyotes gather and sing to the moon, forgiving him for the cool, short nights. In return for the songs, Lune granted the coyotes the ability to see during the night, and have the strength to hunt.
